1979 FORD FAIRMONT FUTURA As the original Ford ad says, the future isn't someday it's now, now, now! The original Fox Body and what is rumored to be the trial of the legendary (and rarely optioned) 5.0L Windsor OHV 139hp V8! The Futura is bright with its Red Glow paint, opera landau vinyl top and its perfect bucket seat plaid interior, 3 speed floor mounted manual transmission with overdrive, speaking of you need to be doing 70+ to go into overdrive and be ready for takeoff! It's original in-dash 8 track tape is still there. California blue plate car with no rust and showing only 86,000+/- miles. Recent fluid change, AC restored, new tires and styling that says now this Futura is a sleeper ready to go! The Fairmont debuted for 1978 with three body configurations; a two-door sedan, a four-door sedan, and a five-door station wagon. Late in the 1978 model year, a two-door coupe was introduced; named Futura, the name revived the sporty trim level used for the 1960s Ford Falcon. The Fairmont Futura was developed from a Fairmont-based Thunderbird design proposal from March 1976. The Futura was a two-door coupe distinguished by a model-specific roofline that featured a wrap over B-pillar similar to the 1977–1979 Ford Thunderbird but without opera windows. The rear fascia was also given its own wrap-around taillamp design. To further differentiate the Futura from the standard Fairmont, the coupe was fitted with the 4-headlight fascia from the Zephyr, and a cross-hatched grille was used in place of the standard eggcrate grille.
